All myths and religions (or are those the same) have the same basic pattern which the lat Joseph Campbell outlined in his ground breaking book "The Hero With A Thousand Faces."
Religion, all of them, began as one small tribe, or large city, or even an empire tried their best to explain the inexplicable things in their word. To name just a few; rain, thunder, lightening, fire poison food, killer animals death (!), birth, disease, famine.
Each group found their own, often ridiculous, way to account for all this.
So you have the same basic questions "seemingly" answered in the same basic myths, including the Judeo-Christian faith. A god or goddess crucified to a tree (Innana, Odin, Im already using to much space here.
The MAJOR POSITIVE I leave you with is that their core, all religions actually help millions. Communism is flat out "human evil" (mans inhumanity to man.
Lastly, my father was an Episcopal priest for more than half his life. We'd have long deep conversations when I was a kid and tagged along weekends for grocery shopping etc. He said one thing that completely changed my spiritual life: "THERE IS TRUTH IN ALL RELIGIONS."
